Distance from Puno Downtown: 76 kilometers - l hour and 30 minutes by private transportation

• The peninsula is located Titicaca Lake (northwest) and it is known by local as the Capachica Peninsula, but travelers know it as the Llachon Peninsula or Llachon Bay. Llachon is an Andean community that occupies a big portion of the peninsula. Their members made small buildings to host travelers from all over the world to share their way of living. 
• This peninsula offers an incredible view of the Amantani island, Bolivian mountains and the city of Puno from far. This is a remote area where travelers will enjoy asky full of stars.
• This is a beatiful place where locals maintain ancient customs and beliefs. When staying at one of the home-stays built by the locals, travelers will be able to learn about the Andean Textile process, their agricultural practices, their ancient social customs, among other traditions. A few locals offering home-stays to travelers have facebook accounts and it is possible to arrange an stay by messaging them. Travel agencies usually work with the most reliable members with the best accommodations (it is important to understand that this is a poor area of Peru and accommodations are basic in comfort). 
• Tourism, fishing, agriculture, and traditional textiles are the main economical activities of this remote area of Peru.
• From Llachon travelers can visit the islands of Taquile and Amantani by boat. Kayaking tours are available in some of the home-stays and the island of Amantani can be visited in one day if in good physical shape.
• The rainy season goes from December to March and it is better to visit this area during the rest of the year. At night temperatures can drop close to freezing conditions and it is important to bring adequate cloting for this cold weather.
• Sun screen and sun glasses should be used at all times here.
