Ica Provinces

(Counties)

Ica, located inthe southcentralpart of Peru,is composed of 5 provinces or counties. It has severalecologicalsteps (0 to 4,893 meters above sea level) and covers an area of 21,327.83 square kilometers. Ica is the 19th largest region in Peru (out of 25 including El Callao) and has a rich coast due to its coldwater with a varied fauna living on the Islands Ballestas and San Gallon. Ica is sunny most of the year with beaches that are a great source of entertainment and relaxation allyear round. This is a mainly desert-like region with beautiful sand dunes which are great for sand boarding and four wheel driving. The Natural Reserve of Paracas offers incredible landscapes and a varied fauna.

The Region of Ica is rich in history. This fertile but dry land gave life to the Paracas and Nasca civilizations, whose people developed great textile and ceramic skills and drew the Nasca Lines. The best pisco and wine in Peru can be found in this region.
