Once the Spaniards arrived in Peru,the Region of Ica took an important role due to its privileged location, fertile valleys, and warm water all year round.When the time carne to choose a capital for the Viceroyalty of Peru,Lima and Ica were the winners. As a consequence, the Region of Ica maintained its importance in Peru and several large plantations were established during this period of time,resulting in the building of the owners' houses along with other buildings. In sorne cases, churches which were built had large plantations of their own. Nowadays, many of these buildings are open to public.
