Cusco

Provinces

Located in the southern central area of Peru, Cusco is composed of 13 provinces or counties. Cusco was chosen by the Incas to be the capital of their civilization due to its variety of climates and ecological steps. The Region of Cusco ranges from 1,745 to 20,900 feet (532 to 6,372 meters) above sea level and covers an area of 71,986.50 square kilometers. The beauty of this region's landscapes can change from snowy Andean peaks to green rainforests in a matter of hours. (The Amazon Rainforest covers a portion of the region in the northeast.)

The Region of Cusco attracts thousands of foreign and local travelers every year due to its breath takin glandscapes, the remains of ancient civilizations, a vivid and diverse culture with ancient customs, and a beautiful folklore, as well as a cosmopolitan and interesting urban area. A visit to Cusco and Machu Picchu is on most people's bucket lists.
