Location: San Pedro District, Canchis Province, and Cusco Region.

Distance from Downtown Cusco: 121 kilometers - 2 and a half hours by car.

• The area where the site is located was in habited long before the Incas. Remains found at the site lead researchers to believe that the Pucara (around 200 AD) and Wari (750 AD to l050 AD) people occupied this area as well.
• The current site occupies an area of 1,097 hectares. In this area there are five main sections, the most important ones being the Viracocha Temple (name given to their most important divinity), the Plazas (open areas divided by a room with a tall wall at each side and a passage to access each division), and the Qolqas (small storage rooms). The Viracocha Temple has a rectangular shape approximately 91 meters by 28 meters long. The highest wall is 40 feet ( 12.30 meters) tall. lt is believed that the temple has a direct relation with the Kinsachata Volcano.
• Raqchiplayed animportant role during the Inca Empire and was believed to hove been used for religious, administrative,and military purposes. Here probably lived a large, well-organized population where crops were collected from nearby farmers to be sent to other areas of the Empire and to be stored in case of future shortages.
• A visit to Raqchi is included in the South Valley Tour offered around Cusco and the Tourist Bus ride from Puno to Cusco and vice versa. This is a very interesting site and probably one of the most impressive examples of the urban designs of the Incas. lt should be part of every traveler's itinerary.
• When buying the entrance ticket, verify the number of sites you would like to visit, and based on that, purchase either the partial or the full ticket. Tickets for only this site are not available for sale.
