Location: Chala District, Province of Caraveli, Arequipa Region.

Distance from Arequipa Downtown: 407 kilometers - 6 hours and 30 minutes by private  transportation.

• The Puerto Inka archaeological site is located next to the Pacific Ocean in a beautiful small bay. It was the most important Inca settlement in the Southern Coast of Peru. It is believed that the Inca Trail (aka Qhapaq Ñan) connected Puerto Inka and the capital of the Empire (Cusco) . It is also believed that this was the route used to take seafood to Cusco.
• In the site, travelers can observe the remains of an urban sector, a cemetery, and underground storages to preserve the seafood obtained from the Pacific Ocean.
• This is a great spot in a remote area of Southern Peru where travelers can stay at a tourist hotel while enjoying the beautiful bay where Puerta Inka is located. This is a hidden gem mainly known by locals and mostly visited during the summer months of January and February by people from Arequipa and Lima.
• Travelers are allowed to camp but a fee needs to be paid to the hotel that takes care of the beach.
