Location: The park is located in the Provinces of Sandia and Carabaya in the Region of  Puno and the Province of Tambopata in the Region of Puerto Maldonando.

Distance from Puno Downtown: 373 kilometers (vio Huancane) - 8 hours by car plus another 8 hours by foot

• Travelers should get a yellow fever shot before heading to the National Park Manu (at least l0 days before visiting the park)
• The Tambopata and Heath Rivers cross the Bahuaja Sonene National Park, and 703 of the park is located in the Region of Puno while the other 303 is in the Region of Puerto Maldonando.
• The Bahuaja Sonene is one of the most diverse rainforests in Peru and South America. In the park it has been possible to document the existence of 600 species of birds, l74 species of mammals, l00 species of reptiles and amphibians, 232 species of fish, and 1200 species of butterflies. Also, it is believed that around 20,000 species of vegetables grow in this park.
• It is believed that humans hove populated and coexisted in the Bahuaja Sonene for 3,000 to 4,000 years. The Eseeja are the oldest group of people living in this park.
• When visiting the park, it is important to get the assistance of a local guide since getting lost in this enormous forest is very easy and sorne local tribes do not welcome visitors.
• The rainy season goes from December to March, when the water level of the rivers and lakes grows significantly; therefore, tourism-related activities should not be undertaken during this time of the year.
