• The museum occupies the house of the German painter, photographer, and Pre-Colombian and Colonial collector Carlos Dreyer. During the 46 years he lived in Puno, Carlos Dreyer collected various artifacts dating back to Pre-Colombian and Colonial times.
• The museum exhibits Carlos Dreyer's collection in eight rooms. The most relevant galleries are the Inca Gallery, which exhibits pieces from the Inca civilization as well other civilizations which lived on the coast of Peru, such as the Moche, Chimu, Paracas and Nasca; the Stone Era Gallery (Salón Galería Lítica), which exhibits local remains of sculptures, the most important ones being the Monoliths of the Pucara people; the Regional Archeological Gallery, which exhibits artifacts of several civilizations and kingdoms which existed in the area; and the Art Galleries, where the paintings of Carlos Dreyer and other artists are exhibited.
• This museum offers the best collection of antique artifacts in the region of Puno.
