The Region of Tumbes shares a border with Ecuador and usually has very nice weather through out the year (sunny and warm). Tumbes is popular in Peru because of its beautiful beaches and the lv1angrove Swamps of Tumbes. The warmest months of the year are from December to April. The rest of the year is still warm.

Punta Sal is the most popular beach in Tumbes and probably one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Peru. Because of the location, Punta Salis usually sunny and hot all year round.This is a great place to relax, away from the regular pace of life. Adventure activities  suchas  snorkeling, diving, or fishing can be arranged.

The Mangrove Swamps of Tumbes are located two and a hal hours away from Punta Sal. The Mangrove Swamps, a National Sanctuary created by the Peruvian government in 1988, cover a total area of 2,972 hectares. Visitors at the Sanctuary can observe several species of birds, crustaceous, fish, and the Tumbes Crocodile.

Punta Salcan be visited by air and ground transportation. The closest airports are the Airport of Piura, located 94 miles from Punta Sal, and the Airport of Tumbes, located 44 miles from Tumbes. A plane can be token from Lima with non-stop service or from Cusco or Arequipa with one stop in Lima. Piura receives more flights than Tumbes per day. There are several bus companies operating routes coming from Lima and Guayaquil, Ecuador. Sorne ground transportation companies are not serious about safety so travelers need to make sure they hove booked with a reputable bus company. From Lima to Piura,a flight takes about two hours while a non-stop bus ride takes about 18 hours. A bus from Chiclayo to Punta Saltakes about seven and a hallhours.
