Located in the western center portion of Peru, Lima is composed of 10 provinces or counties. The Constitutional Province of El Callao is independent from Lima and, therefore, not included in that number. Lima has several ecological steps (0 to 5,654 meters above sea level) and it covers an area of 32,129.31 square kilometers. Its long coast, rich in an assortment of plant and animal life, has beautiful beaches with world-class waves. The mountains offer breathtaking views and unexpected natural reserves.
The Region of Lima is the center of the country and it has a rich history (several ancient civilizations settled in this area), an exquisite cuisine (the best chefs and restaurants of Peru are in Lima), beautiful landscapes, varied flora and fauna, and an exciting nightlife.
